On February 10, 2025, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced that the Venango Conservation District will receive an $18,096 Growing Greener grant for our East Branch Sugar Creek Protection Project. We will be partnering with Oakland Township and the PA Fish & Boat Commission to implement a streambank stabilization and fish habitat enhancement project. 11 other projects in the Northwest region of Pennsylvania were also awarded a total of $2.5 million. Statewide, awards exceeded $15 million. Growing Greener is the largest single investment of state funds in Pennsylvania's history to address critical environmental concerns. Growing Greener grants can be awarded to watershed groups, local or county government, municipal authorities, county planning commissions, county conservation districts, council of governments, educational institutions, or non-profit organizations. Grantees have up to three years to implement their projects. More information about the awarded projects and the Growing Greener grant program is available on DEP's website.
